Midwest MedWAR 2014
If there is one thing that Jacob gets excited about, it's the outdoors. Then add medical emergencies and outdoor adventuring to the mix, and he is all in!
When Jacob came out for his audition rotation at St. V's for a month, it just so happened to be the month when they were holding the annual Midwest MedWAR. He loved it so much that once we came here as residents, he hooked up right away with the same doc's who organized it before, so that he could get in on the action again...and again. This was now his third year helping out.
Last year, he went up on his own, but after seeing that other residents had brought their families up, he decided to bring us along this time. The boys were SO excited to go camping. We hadn't gone as a family in several years - the stars just never aligned for us with Jacob's crazy schedule.
They hold the event up at Bruin Lake in Michigan, north of Ann Arbor. Jacob went up ahead to set some things up and then we followed him after the boys got out of school. We had some fun finally using the massive tent that Jacob and I won in a raffle all those years ago during BYU's seniors night, had s'mores and the whole nine years. It rained quite a bit overnight, but we managed through it alright. It was also a bit chilly, but the boys didn't let that bother them either.
The morning of the big race, the boys and I went up with Jacob to the site of the challenges that he was working on and helped set up. Caleb and Brendan thought it was so cool to see what their dad was doing. It didn't hurt that it was out in the woods and through trails, either.
During the event, we kept busy by playing games, having lunch, playing at the playground and playing in the sand (our site had a sandy patch perfect for making sand castles in). Then there was pizza and snacks for all. Everyone loved it! Before we even left, Jacob was talking about starting to plan for next year.
