Caleb at College: Week 2

I think I'm going to start keeping a record of Caleb's college highlights from his weekly FaceTime calls, just so that I can remember...and maybe he'll enjoy looking back at them someday, as well.

The coolest thing: Getting to participate in his first Air Force drill down. His ROTC detachment lined up by flights in the parking lot of LaVell Edwards Stadium and practiced marching, coming to attention, parade rest, turning, about facing, you get it. He thought it was pretty fun when they made it into a competition to see who could follow instructions and last the longest. (NOTE: Every time he talks about ROTC, he gets a twinkle in his eye and a grin on his face.)

The craziest thing: Caleb's roommate Parker got busted being a shirtless peeping tom. There have been some really cool temperatures in Provo lately, and Parker had been walking around the apartment without a shirt, hoping for warmer weather. He walked out the front door onto the porch to see what the weather was going to be like (they are up a couple of stories, with a view directly over the next door neighbor's fence and into the yard). Apparently, he was surprised to spy some serious PDA going on next door, and couldn't help but bust up laughing. Just then, the couple looked up and saw him watching them! Awkward!

The worst thing: Rental appliances stink. The apartment's stove top does not work well...at all. The front burners barely work and the back ones get so hot so fast that inevitably someone ends up burning something on a daily basis. Once, one of his roommates even managed to start a fire! Their smoke alarms have been well tested and all is in working order.

When Caleb and Parker had attempted to fry up some hamburgers on medium low heat, they were charcoaled on the outside within a couple of minutes, leaving the inside raw. He was only able to eat around the edges which managed to be cooked. Also, Caleb discovered that there is a clothes dryer which does not dry clothes. Pro tip, don't waste your precious quarters on the bad dryer. Noted.

The miracle of the week: Caleb felt like he got some extra help in remembering his homework assignments with time to get them done. He has to often rush from class to class, especially on Thursdays when he has a super full schedule without breaks. Sometimes, it makes it difficult for him to write down assignments, which aren't given out until the very end of class. One day, he had completely forgotten that he had a religion assignment which was going to be due. He was just sitting there without anything on his mind when out of nowhere it popped into his head that he needed to do it. He feels like Heavenly Father is giving him a little assistance. Phew!
