Epic End to Winter Break

As our last "hurrah" before the end of winter break, the boys and I headed out to Triple Play for some fun. We bowled and played a round of indoor black light mini-golf. Then, we hit the arcade. Caleb bowled an impressive game, with Riley close behind him. In mini-golf, there were a couple of holes in one. However, the really impressive part of the day was when the boys tried their hands at the arcade games.

They each went around with their cards, trying to earn as many digital tickets as humanly possible. They have managed to learn which games will get them the most, and were sure to hit all of those. Brendan did an amazing job on Crossy Road, hitting its high score for the day, earning him a jackpot! 500 TICKETS!

Then, Caleb told us about how his is a master at the actual jackpot machine. He said that he had a special technique, which always helped him win. We were all a little sceptical, so he marched us straight over to the game and gave it a go. He counted down until 10, did a huge, hard tuck and push on the lever, and the wheel o' tickets spun. And slowed. And slowed. And approached the "Big Bass Bonus" of 1000 tickets, which is an extremely narrow strip of green surrounded by a whole lot of lighter colored 4 tickets area. It crept to a stop...and STOPPED ON THE JACKPOT! I kid you not, the boy pulled it off on the very first try. It. Was. Incredible.

I couldn't help but give a hoot, and we all watched in amazement as the digital ticket counter below counted all the way up to 1000! It was seriously one of the most amazing things I've ever seen.

After that, there would be no living with Caleb, but he nonchalantly said that it was no good to try the game again for at least a couple of minutes, as it would not have another big win so soon after a jackpot (cuz, Caleb has been playing in Vegas for years, apparently, and knows all the tricks). So, the boys headed over to skeeball and played a few other games for awhile.

Then he decided it was worth trying again, so he marched right over to the game, did his count down from 10, pulled and pushed, and we waited with bated breath as the wheel spun again. It slowed. And slowed. It crept up to the other bonus area which is a narrow pink strip for 100 tickets, also surrounded by a whole lot of lighter 4 tickets area. It slowed...and STOPPED ON THE JACKPOT! I am not making this stuff up, folks. Another winner! Can you say "mind BLOWN"?

And because they were feeling so hot, Brendan tried another game called "Pop the Lock"...and, YES! Won the JACKPOT! These boys were on fire!

Riley, who had gotten a little skeeball game from Brendan for Christmas had been practicing at home, and was killing it on the skeeball game. So, with all their digital tickets combined, they had over 2000 tickets and had enough for the big, cool prizes. Honestly, the only thing that could have made it more exciting would have been to have physical tickets pouring out of all the machines, so that they could hold that awesomeness in their hands.

They put all their tickets together and decided to get a cool little popcorn light for our movie room. They even had enough left over to get each of them a Fun Dip! They were seriously so proud.

To top of our most epic trip to Triple Play EVER, we were headed out of the arcade to get out to the car when a teenage boy approached Caleb. At first, I assumed it was a kid from school, but then I saw Caleb's puzzled face as the boy led him over to a pack of teenage GIRLS! The all turned around and were introducing themselves to him! Holy smokes! That was when we realized that Caleb was babe slaying as he showed his jackpotting prowess. They were asking him for his number!

Brendan, Riley and I ducked out at that point and Caleb caught up to us at the exit door. The rest of the way home, the boys ate their Fun Dips and we all marveled about what an afternoon we'd had. Who knew that a day at the arcade could be so memorable!
