Recon Tooth Fairy

After struggling with a snaggle tooth for several days, Riley lost his first front baby tooth!

He lost it right before going to sleep and went upstairs to put it on the kitchen counter for safe keeping (which was a great choice, since I was worried about him swallowing it in his sleep!). He makes a pretty adorable punkin mouth, and was so excited to show us his tooth. He was SO excited about his tooth, in fact, that (despite my wishes) he chose to take his tooth to school to show his class. He borrowed a little blue treasure box from Brendan to put the tooth in, and then left for school, promising that he would be extra careful and not lose it.

Well, he lost it. On the way onto the bus to come home after school, he was showing someone and accidentally dropped the blue treasure box and, being the rule follower that he is, wouldn't just step out of line for a second to get it. Apparently, the ladies at the bus lines are pretty strict on not getting out of line. He came home just devastate, not only about his tooth, but about losing Bren's treasure box. I tried calling the school to find out if it had been found and turned in, but no luck. Poor guy.

A few days passed and I wasn't sure if he had forgotten about it or not. He had had his class Halloween party and life had been busy as usual.

Then on Saturday, I noticed him writing a letter to the tooth fairy. I didn't read it, but I later asked him about it and he said that he had written to her and left it under his pillow already. He was apologizing for losing the tooth at school. He didn't ask for anything, just apologized. Sweet boy.

Well, this morning when he checked under his pillow he had a note from the tooth fairy and a dollar! He felt pretty special.

Our tooth fairy isn't always the most reliable, but she can pull it out when she really needs to. She has a good heart. ;) We love you, Riley!
