A "Friends Party" for Caleb

When your birthday is right in the middle of the summer, it can be hard to round up friends. Caleb has had this problem since the beginning. The last time he was able to pull off a birthday party with his friends was when he was six.

Last year, we had managed to organize some laser tag with buddies from the ward a few days after his birthday, but not a proper party. Everyone was out of town. It just never worked out.

Well, lucky for Caleb, he has a pretty awesome group of friends now that contacted me after our trip to California about putting together a belated surprise birthday party! Fellow sophomore and cross country teammate, Kimball Demars set a day and time, invited the rest of the crew and asked them to bring desserts. We provided the house and the pizza.

The plan was for the crew to arrive at the house to decorate while Caleb was at his driver's ed class. Then I would pick him up and text them on the way back, so that they could get ready for him.

He walked the kitchen door from the garage to a house full of teenagers. He didn't act especially surprised on the outside, but said that he was on the inside. Silly guy. He was thrilled.

The boy of honor felt pretty special, especially sporting my birthday princess hat. Ha!

They made a bonfire out back later and played Don't Break the Ice and foosball. Just a bunch of sillies. What a great surprise, thought! Fifteen feels pretty good!
