When the Weather Gets Cold, the Fun Gets Hot
For this year's Blue and Gold celebration, the pack leaders decided to spice things up with a Hawaiian luau. Complete with grass and over-sized flower decorations, leis and tropical fruit (as best as could be found in the dead of winter in the off season), it was a big hit! Every family in the pack came and enjoyed a Hawaiian haystack dinner, some Hawaiian themed activities like "surfing" and coconut bowling, as well as learning how to sing "Ten Little Indians" in Hawaiian from Sister Roehl.
Sister Thomas brought a gorgeous fruit platter.
Coconut bowling didn't last long with the Cub Scouts literally throwing the coconut at the "pins" and having it crash against the floor and wall. And since the coconuts can only be found at the grocery store pre-scored, they cracked and leaked coconut water everywhere. Pinterest fail, but the boys still enjoyed it while it lasted.
No roast pig, but a gorgeous "Hawaiian" feast as interpreted by Ohioan Mormons. ;)
The pack leaders dished out the grub to the Cub Scouts first. Lani Roehl (our new assistant Cubmaster), Maria Simons (Cubmaster), Adria Thomas (Webelos), Zach Kasch (Wolves), JB Walters (Bears), Linda Bruce (Webelos).
Brendan earned his Whittling Chip for learning about pocketknife safety and whittling his first soap figure. He is pretty eager to get a pocketknife of his own once he earns his Arrow of Light.
Jacob and the boys eating and chatting with Bishop Hinman and Sister Hinman.
It was a colorful and fun evening. The Cub Scouts know how to do a party right!
