Spring on the Run
This is the result of the busy spring we have been undertaking. Poor Riley didn't make it passed drying off, poor guy.
Pretty much from the moment that the winter snows melted, the Jerdon family hit the ground running. Literally.
First, Caleb joined the Timberstone Junior High track team. His event was the 110 meter hurtles. Lucky for him, that was also his dad's event back in high school, so during the spring break he had some one-on-one training sessions on the track with Dad to learn the hurtling technique, overcome any fears about running over the hurtles, work on fitness and otherwise get ready for the season ahead.
He ended up having one or two track meets every week, with after school practices on the non-meet days. It was a busy schedule to keep up with...AND still get homework done, and fit in scouts/Young Men and anything else he had going on. But, he enjoyed being on the team and improved every meet. It was very exciting to attend the meets and see him get stronger and stronger.
No too long after track season started, then spring soccer season also began. Brendan had been chompin' at the bit to get out on the field. He had been playing during recess with his buddies, learning techniques and fancy footwork from them, and was really confident this year. He has come such a long way in only a year and a half. At the beginning of fall season of this third grade year, he had never played before and didn't even know the rules! This year, he was leading his team in goals!
Then in between all the sports, we still tried to fit in some fun family activities like National Train Day (it was such a hit last year, we had to go again), getting energy out at the park, and assembling and shooting off model rockets!
Here is the launch, for your viewing pleasure. Riley was EC-STATIC! He had been jumping up and down all morning about the impending rocket launch and how it would go so high in the sky. So fun!
Things are finally winding down now at the close of the school year. Caleb had his NLL championship meet last week. We got to see him run in the 4x200 meter relay and the 200 meter hurtles.
It was a fun, if not exhausting, season! And Brendan also had his last soccer game on Saturday.
Well done, boys! Now, we all need to rest! Is it summer yet?
