Uncle Tommy: Motorcycle Rider
Over the last week or so, we had Uncle Tommy stop in on his motorcycle all the way from Tennessee! He rode up and stayed with us a bit in between sightseeing some of Ohio and the Church History sites.
Riley really took a shine to him and kept saying that he wanted to "go with Uncle Tommy to Uncle Tommy's house."
While he was with us, we also decided to take a day trip of our own. Jake happened to have a day off, so we could all be together. Yay! We drove out to Port Clinton along the southern part of Lake Erie to see the African Safari Wild Animal Park. We saw bison (aka buffalo), tons of these tiny, miniature deer, long horn steer, elk, and some unknown breed of Savannah horned beasts (there weren't any signs to designate or anything - I guess we should have stopped into the gift shop). I kept wondering if we would see many "African" animals, but then we finally saw some zebras and giraffes. Honestly, it wasn't a very big park. It made us glad that we'd used a coupon. San Diego it was not, but the boys enjoyed it anyway. Brendan and Caleb's favorite animal was the buffalo. Mine, too. :)
Uncle Tommy was too chicken to leave the window down or offer the buffalo some of his food pellets.
Brendan was willing to attempt it, though.
For some reason, the zebras and giraffes were behind fences and not wandering freely like the other animals.
After the wild animal park, we made a quick stop a few minutes down the road at the Marblehead Lighthouse. It was GORGEOUS weather. Clear as a bell and 75. We didn't get to go inside the lighthouse, but the boys had just as much fun climbing on the rocks and enjoying the gentle waves of the lake. It really is so big that it feels like the ocean.
Before we knew it, it was time for Uncle Tommy to ride back home. The boys were sad to see him go, but he promised to return next summer with the rest of the family and we could do some more day trips together.
