Pumpkins and Worms
It's time for our annual Halloween Family Home Evening. That means pumpkin carving, spooky music and worms in dirt. If you've never had worms in dirt, it may sound odd or disgusting, but it's a family favorite Halloween recipe. This year, Caleb did the honors and made the much anticipated dessert. It just wouldn't be Halloween for the boys without it. And like most of our desserts, it is super healthy and full of fiber and nutrients. (You knew I was joking, right?) It's full of chocolate.
Worms in Dirt
2 cups cold milk
1 - 4 serving box instant chocolate pudding mix
8oz Cool Whip, thawed
8oz Oreo cookies (about 1/2 package)
Oreo pie crust
gummy worms for garnish
Crush Oreos in food processor or plastic bag with rolling pin. Set aside about 1/4-1/2 cup crumbs. Combine milk and pudding mix in a large bowl. Whisk for 2 minutes. Let stand 5 minutes. Stir in Cool Whip and Oreo crumbs until combined. Pour into Oreo crust until full (any extra can be put into individual dishes or tupperware for a treat later). Top with reserved Oreo crumbs and chill 2 hours or overnight. Before serving, top with gummy worms. Yum!
Caleb and Brendan both designed and cleaned out their pumpkins, and Jacob helped do the carving. Riley colored his mini pumpkin - actually he mostly colored himself, but SOME of the color did get on the pumpkin.
Riley also was the designated candle blower-outer. Everyone got to help. It was a good night.
