The Big Double Digits!

Caleb turned the big 1-0 on the 29th! It's incredible to think about. He'll be starting his last year of elementary school in less than a month, too! Ack! Who is this big kid?!

For his birthday this year, he wanted a Minecraft birthday cake. For the un-cyber-savey, Minecraft is a computer game that is very cubistic and pixilated (for reasons I don't understand with what they can do with graphics these days). You wander around this cube world and harvest elements and then "craft" tools and whatever you need to survive the night time when lurking zombies, skeletons and "creepers" attack. Creepers are green four-legged monsters that resemble Gumbie (Do you remember him?! That one dates me!) Anyway, so I attempted a creeper face cake as well as some mini earth cube cakes. He was so stoked. ;)

See the resemblance?

My family made the drive up from California and he was so excited to spend the time with them. He got one of his favorite dinners, tacos and burritos, and had a ball with his Aunt Laura. She was letting the boys (even Caleb!) take turns getting piggy back rides from her. Talk about throwing your back out! At least she's still young enough to take it. Riley started calling her "horsey", which we found hilarious. Good ol' Aunt Horsey. LOL

Caleb got all sorts of different gifts, everything from Star Wars action figures, to Mad Scientist lab kits (ones where you create bugs and things and then eat them - gotta love boys), to Transformers and an omni tool.

Then we surprised him with a brand new bike! Just in time for school. he he. He had been riding a used bike that some friends from Oregon had given us for free before we moved, but it had had issue after issue. The chain kept coming off the gears and the brakes didn't work in the front. It was ghetto. Even according to our standards (and that's saying something). Anyway, he was thrilled. It is also green, which is his favorite color. Yay! I think he had a fun 10th birthday!
