A Family First - World Record Holders!
Yes, you read right. WORLD RECORD HOLDERS!!! It's true.
Although not exclusively. And on accident. We're that good. he he Let me explain.
Last Thursday, we walked into the Whitney Ranch Aquatic Center for our usual swimming lessons only to find a table set up with fliers and a banner. Something about The World's Largest Swimming Pool or something. I honestly didn't look very closely at it, thinking that it was just some sort of advertisement or something to entice me to pay for more swimming lessons. We hurried on by and sat on the bleachers to ready ourselves to get into the pool. That was when Riley's cute little instructor Koty (that's "Ko-Tee") came up to us.
She said that we would be starting about five minutes late so that the pool manager could give some shpeel, "something about the World's Largest Swimming Lesson or something like that." Clearly, our fifteen-something-year-old instructor was as well informed as we were. She let us know that our lessons would also be going over five minutes to compensate for the late start. Fair enough.
So, at 9 o'clock sharp all the pool staff stream out of their offices and line up in front of all the parents and children sitting unawares on the bleachers. After a little intro, the pool manager tells us that we are going to be taking part in setting a world record along with a number of other aquatic centers in simultaneously holding the world's largest swimming lesson. Apparently, even though we are not all being instructed together - nor even being given the same lesson - this counts. OK. I'm down. The pool manager turned the time over to an older guy who said he was officiating over this thing and woohoo and all that. Cool!
We all then proceeded to our various swimming classes as usual. When we were done, we were asked to be sure and sign in (at that table I'd stalked by at the entrance) and add all of our names to the roster. The boys were all given their own certificate with their name on it, signifying that they participated in the "World's Largest Swimming Lesson" and that they hold the new record. Who knew there even was one. I suppose they have a record for just about anything and everything. Regardless, we all thought that was pretty neat-o. Even Jake acknowledged that that was one thing the boys have now done that he's never done. Not bad for a morning's work.
