Caleb's Big "B" Day

After his big b-day, it was time for Caleb's big "B" for baptism day just two days later. We were very blessed that the timing was such that my youngest brother, Don, had literally JUST come home from his mission to Fiji and was able to attend along with both sets of grandparents and our local Henderson family.

Caleb was SOOOOO excited and had been eagerly talking about this special day for some time.

He was brimming over with joy when I walked in to see him in his little white jumpsuit. We had had family home evenings and talked a lot about how important and special this step was for him. He knew that he was being like Jesus. The Spirit was so strong.

It was a Stake baptism, but since there were so few children getting baptized, we were asked to fill more of the program. So, my mom gave the baptism talk and my sister and sister-in-law performed "Baptism" from the Primary Songbook as the musical number.

There was a bit of delay after that, however. Apparently the font managed to drain during our opening exercises and we had to wait for them to refill it! I was so worried about all the littler Indians getting restless in their seats. We sang A LOT of songs as we waited, but then it was finally our turn.

It was a beautiful baptism. Jake, who had been teasing me early on about needing to have kleenex handy was the one who set ME off by getting choked up during the ordinance. The flood gates were busted open at that point and there was no stopping me. It is so hard to believe that I have a child even old enough to BE baptized. His little life flashed before our eyes.

Shortly thereafter, he was confirmed a member of the Church and given the gift of the Holy Ghost by his dad, both grandfathers and my two brothers. The prayer in my heart was that we, as his parents, will be able to continue to teach and guide him through this crazy world, keep him as sweet as possible and see him grow into a virtuous, hard-working, faithful young man.

We had a little family party at Jake's Aunt Trisha's home afterward.

She was so kind as to let us have it there and help man all the food (Hawaiian Haystacks - one of Caleb's favorites). Everyone pitched in to make it as stress-less as possible. We have an awesome family!

Caleb had a blast playing with his many second cousins and got to open a few gifts. He finally got his first set of scriptures, complete with his name on them.

Up until now, he's been borrowing Jake's or mine every week for his class, but now he can happy wield his own set inside the carry case Aunt Laura got him. Everyone was very thoughtful.

If nothing else, I hope Caleb will remember all the love he was surrounded with and the Spirit of that day.

It really is crazy how fast those 8 years fly by. It's hard to describe the emotions a mom feels at their child's baptism, but I know exactly how you feel :) At least you were able to enjoy this baptism baby free and now the show can.GET.ON.THE.ROAD! By the way, you look beautiful!
