The Force is With Us
So, Caleb and Brendan have been obsessed with Star Wars lately. We pretty much eat, drink, sleep and breath it. All the boys want to do is "play Star Wars", busting out their "lightsavers" and blasters for some serious sith slaughtering. Caleb insists on recreating scenes, practically scripting everything Jake ought to be saying and doing. Brendan has been perfecting his behind-the-back lightsaber spins.
Then Jake helped us take it to a whole new level.
A few weeks ago, we were coming home from church when Jake suddenly got his big idea....to show off his Force abilities. He asked the boys if he ought to show them how he can drive the car with the Force. (Duh! Of COURSE, they wanted him to!) Then, he demonstrated how he could give a simple wave of his hand and turn the car any direction that he wanted (with the help of some low knee-steering wheel action). Very literally, both boys audibly gasp. Then huge grins cracked across their faces. THEIR FATHER IS A JEDI MASTER!!! Then came the squeals and begging for more "Force driving". He's been finding ways of dazzling them with his skills ever since.
Other than getting a good laugh out of it all, I hadn't really realized just how seriously Brendan was taking it all in until we had Family Home Evening this week. We opened our family time capsule from last year, looking through our pictures and letters to ourselves from January 2008. It finally came time to fill out our letters to ourselves again with our updated details...our current friends, favorite radio tunes, things we're enjoying doing, etc. I was helping Brendan fill his out when we finally came to the part about what things he'd like to accomplish in 2009. (Last year, he wanted to be able to "run faster and faster", which he said he can definitely do now - this was demonstrated by a quick jaunt up and down the hallway just in case there was any doubt.) So, I asked him what he'd like to learn how to do this year to which he answered, "Um. Learn how to use Force lightening and do big flips." Yeah. I guess his Jedi Master Father will have to help our little Padawan out with meeting those goals.
